The Baltimore Sun reported that a backhoe loaded on a flatbed trailer, in tow behind a dump truck, struck the ceiling of the southbound tunnel. The collision caused ceiling tiles and parts of their support structures to fall according to Cpl. Jonathan Green, a spokesman for the Maryland Transportation Authority Police. Ontario Provincial Police officers were investigating a weather-related crash Sunday, when they spotted another transport carrying a wide load while being led by an escort vehicle – an infraction during poor driving conditions. OPP charged the driver and his employer with permit violations.

Not long afterward, another transport drew the attention of OPP. The truck slid off the Third Street exit ramp from the Toronto-bound QEW and rolled over onto its side and into a ditch. A 62-year-old man from Woodstock was charged with careless driving.

For the second time in as many months, a bridge over Interstate 95 has been hit by an overheight load.

Both sections of a doublewide mobile home being hauled on two trucks hit the Brodgen Road bridge over I-95, which is the exit 93 interchange in Smithfield.

The Highway Patrol reported that both trucks had permits issued by the DOT to carry the overheight sections, but were permitted for travel on U.S. 301 and not I-95. Both truck drivers told state troopers they got confused when they reached the intersection of U.S. 701, U.S. 301 and I-95. Both drivers were cited for commercial motor carrier violations.

In November, the same bridge was struck by a truck carrying an excavator. The impact damaged all four steel I-beams of the bridge, causing an estimated $250,000 in structural damage. Repairs to the bridge from that accident are still pending. The driver of the truck hauling the excavator was cited for several violations.

Flashing signal lights were pulled from supports and dangled precariously over traffic after a truck marked with an “oversize load ” sign passed through an intersection in rural Kentucky. According to officials the driver, who was hauling oversized boxed freight from the Cincinnati area to a location in Norfolk, Va., was allegedly unaware of any damage he may have left in his wake.

A tractor-trailer hauling half of a double-wide mobile home and traveling west on Interstate 80 crashed Monday morning just east of North Texas Street, blocking all but one lane of the interstate and snarling traffic for hours.Shortly after 11:15 a.m., the driver of a Native American Trucking Co. big rig lost control, the California Highway Patrol reported. The rig jackknifed, with the mobile home section rolling off the trailer and onto its side, and blocking three of the four westbound lanes of traffic on I-80.

A truck carrying an oversize load from the Port of Oakland to Modesto struck an overpass bridge at 12:06 p.m., according to Officer Oscar Johnson of the California Highway Patrol. The bridge has a clearance of 14 feet 11 inches, and Johnson estimated that a foot of the load hit the bridge. Remember to use a height pole escort for oversize loads!

An oversize load truck, exiting Interstate 89 at Exit 8, became wedged underneath Bridge 41 shortly after 6 p.m. yesterday. Police quickly closed the southbound exit, and VTrans officials arrived to inspect the bridge for safety.

The tractor trailer was accompanied by an escort vehicle. Police said the truck was carrying an empty metal tank from Glens Falls, New York on its way to Bangor, Maine. The truck was freed at about 9 p.m. Wednesday, allowing the ramp to reopen shortly thereafter.

A 78-year-old woman was killed Monday when she collided with a tractor-trailer hauling a modular home on Route 7 in Hoosick, NY, the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office said today. Margaret C. Slavis of Hoosick Falls died when she collided with the eastbound tractor trailer then struck the escort vehicle, deputies said. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
